Heart to Heart: Standing Together for Youth Safety at the Nest

,

On February 11, community partners and youth leaders gathered at The Nest Health Centre and The Treehouse for a meaningful event focused on connection, culture, and youth safety. The Heart to Heart gathering, organized by Street Culture Project (SCP), brought together organizations and community members committed to supporting young people in Regina.

The event was held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and was made possible through the collaboration of several partners, including the University of Regina, Regina Police Service, Mother Teresa Middle School, the City of Regina, and The Nest Health Centre. Together, these organizations created a space for open dialogue, cultural reflection, and community engagement centered on youth wellbeing.

Listening to Youth Voices

At the heart of the event was a simple but powerful goal: to listen directly to youth. Through discussions and shared experiences, participants explored the challenges young people face and how communities can strengthen psychological, cultural, and physical safety for youth across Regina.

The conversations highlighted the importance of collaboration among schools, community organizations, health services, and cultural leaders to create environments where young people feel supported, respected, and heard.

Highlighting The Treehouse

A key focus of the event was The Treehouse, Street Culture Project’s new youth drop-in space located in The Nest’s new extension just across the street from The Nest Health Centre.

The Treehouse is designed as a welcoming and safe environment where youth can spend time, access resources, and build positive connections. Open daily from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., the space offers:

  • Counselling support

  • Group programming

  • Homework help

  • Mentorship opportunities

  • A safe and inclusive place for youth to gather

By providing accessible support and community programming, The Treehouse plays an important role in helping youth feel connected and empowered.

A Community Effort

The Heart to Heart event demonstrated the strength of community collaboration in Regina. By bringing together local organizations, educators, public safety representatives, and youth advocates, the gathering helped strengthen partnerships dedicated to supporting the next generation.

Participants also enjoyed food provided by The Safe Café & Catering, an initiative powered by Street Culture Project that supports community programs and youth opportunities.

Moving Forward Together

Insights gathered during the event will help Street Culture Project and its partners continue to shape programs and services that respond to the real needs of young people. These conversations are an important step in building safer, more supportive spaces where youth can grow, connect, and thrive.

At The Nest Health Centre, we are proud to be part of a community that works together to uplift and empower young people.
